BIO

Sohar Villegas was born in 1982 and raised until the age of 17 in Trelew, Chubut, Patagonia Argentina. He currently lives in Ibiza, Spain.

He works with video, pixilation and stop-motion techniques as a way to centralize landscapes, performance, sounds, scripts and post-production elements. Connection with inner magic, nature, emotional movement, discovery of new/ancient rituals and sensibilities are an important part of his artistic inspirations and motivations.

His video dance Estrellita was selected among the Top 30 of the 2017 Scandinavian festival 60sec Screendance, and his videos have also been screened at festivals in San Pablo, Brazil, Epuyén, Chubut, Argentina, and in the 2019 Art Fair Ibiza, among others. He was selected in the Open Call for Balearic artist in the Territori Festival of Performance Art (Ibiza, September 2020). He has also participated in residencies, events and festivals in Aarhus, Berlin, Helsinki, Malaga, Barcelona, Ibiza, Chile and Argentina. He works in Ibiza with the puppet company Theater of the Ancients. He has also worked and collaborated with many international writers, therapists, photographers, dancers and performers on diverse performance and art projects.

His qualifications include theater studies at the National University of Cuyo in Mendoza, as well as Tai Chi, Chi Kung, Feng Shui, I Ching and integrating Taoism into everyday life. He studied meditation and several bio-energetic techniques for more than 10 years at the Institute of Unitary Science in Ibiza, Spain. He also holds the Monitor de Ocio y Tiempo Libre certificate from S’espurna Association, Ibiza, and is experienced in co-ordinating activities for groups of children and adults.

In 2007, he founded the Intranave Cultural Association based in Ibiza. As part of this organization from 2009-2012 he created summer art workshops for children aged 6-12, working with recycled materials, drawing, painting, video and sculpture. He has previously co-ordinated art workshops for teenagers in Argentina, focusing on gender perspective. He is inspired to co-create interactive performance with children and adults, exploring inner worlds and connecting with nature through the body, movement and installations.
